How do I book an appointment?

Use the Contact page to request a slot, WhatsApp +27 82 050 9071, or tap the Book Appointment buttons across the site.

Is my information confidential?

Yes. I follow HPCSA-aligned ethics and confidentiality. Limits include risk of harm and legal requirements, which we will discuss in session.

Do you work with medical aid?

Yes. Services are billed at standard medical aid tariffs. Invoices carry full HPCSA and Practice Number details for reimbursement (HPCSA: PMT 0091596; Practice No: 0596973).

Do you offer online sessions?

Yes. Secure online sessions via Zoom are available nationwide. Standard consultations are available at the Viljoenskroon practice. Bedside hospital referrals can be accommodated at Mooimed Hospital (Potchefstroom) and Netcare Vaalpark Hospital (Vanderbijlpark).

What is your cancellation policy?

We kindly request at least 24 hours' notice if you need to cancel or reschedule an appointment. Because your session time is specifically reserved for you, appointments cancelled with less than 24 hours' notice may be subject to a standard cancellation fee (which medical aids do not cover).

How long do reports take?

Timeframes vary by assessment type and brief. We agree on timelines at the outset; urgent requests can be discussed.

Do you serve clients outside Cape Town?

Yes. I offer online sessions nationally and travel for organisational work by arrangement.

What if this is an emergency?

Please contact emergency services or go to the nearest hospital. This practice is not an emergency service.

How do I claim from my medical aid?

1) Book and attend your session.
2) Receive an invoice with all required details, including HPCSA: PMT 0091596 and Practice No: 0596973 (plus dates, duration, tariff, and ICD-10 codes where applicable).
3) Submit the invoice via your medical aid member portal/app or email as per your scheme's process.
4) Your medical aid reimburses you (or pays the provider) according to your plan benefits.
5) If you paid upfront, keep proof of payment to attach when required.

What is the difference between clinical evidence-based psychology and faith-integrated Christian pastoral counselling?

Clinical, evidence-based psychology
• Scope: mental health focus (diagnosis, symptom reduction, functioning).
• Methods: empirically supported therapies (e.g., CBT, ACT, trauma-focused).
• Standards: HPCSA-aligned ethics; measurable outcomes; coordinated care with medical teams.

Faith-integrated Christian pastoral counselling
• Scope: meaning, vocation, spirituality and relationships through a Christian lens; can complement clinical care.
• Methods: counselling skills with Scripture/prayer/spiritual practices when the client desires; respect for conscience and tradition.
• Standards: Clear ethical boundaries and confidentiality; inclusive and non-coercive; referrals made when clinical needs arise.

Choosing between them
• Clinical therapy is best for mental health conditions or structured change plans; pastoral counselling helps integrate faith and spiritual formation. Many clients benefit from a combined, coordinated approach.

Where are consultations held?

In-person: Viljoenskroon practice (standard consultations).
Online: Zoom (nationwide).
Hospital (bedside referrals): Mooimed Hospital (Potchefstroom) & Netcare Vaalpark Hospital (Vanderbijlpark).

🕊️ Therapy & Consulting Approach

3. What is the difference between your Psychological and Pastoral counselling?
Psychological Counselling is strictly evidence-based, focusing on clinical frameworks (like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) to manage mental health conditions like anxiety, depression, and trauma.

Pastoral Counselling is a holistic, faith-integrated approach. It combines these same rigorous psychological principles with Christian theology, providing spiritual comfort and alignment for clients who specifically wish to explore their healing through their Christian faith.

You are entirely in control of which approach we take, and your personal boundaries or beliefs will always be fully respected.

Referrals & Access

4. Do I need a referral from a doctor to see you?
No, a formal medical referral is not required to book a private consultation at the Viljoenskroon practice or online.

However, if you are an inpatient at Mooimed Hospital or Netcare Vaalpark Hospital, your attending physician or psychiatrist will usually coordinate the referral internally for bedside consultations.

🎒 Assessments & Legal Services

5. How long does a Psychometric, Educational, or Forensic Assessment take?
Assessment durations vary significantly depending on the requirement:

Standard educational or career assessments typically take 2 to 4 hours of interactive testing.

Complex Medico-Legal, Neurological, or Forensic assessments may require multiple sessions alongside collateral interviews and extensive document reviews.

A clear timeline and testing schedule will be discussed with you prior to starting.

⚖️ Legal Admissibility

6. Are your assessments legally admissible in South African courts?
Yes. Forensic and Medical-Legal assessments are conducted strictly within statutory and legal frameworks. Dr. Niemann provides objective, comprehensive expert witness reporting suitable for personal injury, road accident fund (RAF), and psychiatric-legal court proceedings.

📅 General Logistics

7. Do you offer online consultations?
Yes. While physical consultations are held at the Viljoenskroon practice or designated hospitals, individual counselling, career guidance, and managerial coaching can comfortably be conducted online via secure Zoom or Microsoft Teams links.

💳 Medical Aid & Fees

1. Can I claim my sessions back from my Medical Aid?
Yes. Dr. Niemann is a fully registered professional with the HPCSA (PMT 0091596) and possesses a valid Board of Healthcare Funders (BHF) Practice Number (0596973). After your consultation, you will receive a detailed invoice containing all required clinical and ICD-10 diagnostic codes, which you can submit directly to your medical scheme for reimbursement according to your plan's benefits.

2. How are the fees for corporate consulting or legal assessments structured?
Unlike clinical therapy sessions, corporate services (like HR development, team building, or psychometric testing) and Medico-Legal/Forensic assessments are quoted out-of-bounds from regular medical aid rates. A detailed, professional invoice or quotation will be prepared for your company or legal team based on the specific scope of work required.
